Classical training is regarded as the cornerstone of technique which can then be applied to all dance genres. We consider it important for all of our students to study classical ballet to give them the advanced skills required for all types of dance.
Jazz as a dance form, originates from the vernacular dances of Africans when they were brought to the Americas on slave ships. Beginning in the 1930s and continuing through the 1960s, Jazz dance transformed into a theatre-based performance form of dance that required a highly trained dancer.
Contemporary dance is a popular form of dance which developed at the beginning of the 20th Century and has since grown to become one of the dominating performance genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world.
Believed to have begun in the mid 1800s, Tap dance is a form of dance characterised by using the sound of one’s tap shoes hitting the floor (or other surfaces) as a percussive instrument. As such, it is also commonly considered to be a form of music.
